A suspect in a lunchtime robbery at Bank of America in downtown Vancouver was arrested later Friday a short distance away, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The robbery was reported at 12:28 p.m. Friday at the branch, at 805 Broadway, according to dispatch records.

Witnesses told police a man entered the bank, passed a note to a teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, a police statement said. Officers canvassed the area immediately after the report and could not locate anyone matching the robber’s description.

Later, a detailed description and surveillance photo were sent to law enforcement, and a Vancouver Police Department administrator spotted a man matching the description in the 600 block of East Evergreen Boulevard, the statement said.

Officers converged on the scene and took the man into custody and positively identified him as the robbery suspect, according to the statement. The man, Alejandro Velasquez Mendoza, 25, was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and for an outstanding warrant.

He is scheduled to make a first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court, according to the jail’s roster.
