VANCOUVER – A Washington team seeking to break the world land speed record will be featured Saturday at an event benefitting youth aviation programs.

The session will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the aviation building at Cascadia Technical Academy, 12200 N.E. 28th St.

Admission is free; donations will be accepted to raise scholarship money for the Camas/Washougal Grove Field Youth Summer Aviation Camp, which will be held July 11 through 15.

The event showcases an effort to transform a retired F-104 jet fighter into the fastest racing vehicle in history. Ed Shadle and Keith Zanghi will discuss their North American Eagle project, which is based in Pierce County. They want to break the world land speed record of 763 mph set in 1997.

In a collaboration among several youth aviation partners, the event also will serve as an open house for Aviation Explorer Post 1905, which is sponsored by the Pearson Field Education Center. Aviation Career Exploring combines hands-on activities for people 14 to 20 years old with opportunities to meet aviation professionals in a wide range of careers.

Cascadia Technical Academy was formerly known as the Clark County Skills Center.
