Letter: Protect right to be heard

By Gail Ratliff, Vancouver

With all the rancor that is being spewed after President Trump’s win, it was uplifting to read Dick Kuiper’s letter, “Health care is not a right,” (Our Readers’ Views, March 2).

He made it clear what the Constitution allows and the difference between those rights and entitlements. Have we let a generation down by not teaching civil discord and the right for all sides to be heard?

Instead, there are these shout-downs at town hall meetings. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler has the right idea of phone conversations and thus avoiding the bullies of taking over.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
