Letter: Story is preposterous waste of time

A few words about the preposterous wiretapping story that has taken over Washington:

The claim that President Obama had wiretapped Trump headquarters was first voiced on right-wing radio by Mark Levin, a well-known purveyor of conspiracy theories of all kinds. It was based on zero credible evidence. It was given impetus by Rush Limbaugh, on Fox News, published by Breitbart News and then reached the ears of our feckless president, who, while he considers anything published by mainstream media to be fake news, apparently believes anything right-wing radio, Breitbart or Fox News publishes is the gospel truth. He then went off on one of his twitter tirades.

At this point, thousands of people in Washington and elsewhere have spent probably millions of hours in total in trying to track down and prove or disprove these phony allegations. In a more perfect world, it would be possible to send Levin, Limbaugh, Breitbart and Fox News the bill for the many millions of dollars this hoax has cost the taxpayers, with the expectation of it being paid in full.
