Letter: West loses moral superiority

By Stephen Franklin White, VANCOUVER

With constant attacks on Christian values by the liberal judiciary, Western nations have experienced a great decline. Western nations used to have the most principled foreign policies in the world. But on some issues Russia now has a more principled foreign policy. Western nations heavily sanctioned Russia for taking Crimea from Ukraine. However, Crimea was first part of Russia and only became part of Ukraine when Ukraine was part of Russia. Now that Ukraine has left Russia, it does not have the right to take Crimea with it.

In Syria, Russia has taken a principled stand by supporting Assad, the legally elected leader. The main supporters of the anti-Assad rebels are Western nations and Saudi Arabia. The war against Assad is primarily a criminal invasion, but is often called a “civil war” to provide a fig leaf for the aggressors. The negative stories about Assad are largely propaganda. Leaders of most nations would have been far worse if their nations were invaded. Assad should be commended for standing strong against unethical aggressors.

Western nations should work to improve relations with Russia. Not only would this lower tensions in the world, but would help each side become better nations.
