Prep highlights: Wheeler’s walk-off home run puts Hockinson into first place

Colton Wheeler’s two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth gave Hockinson a 4-2 victory over R.A. Long in Tuesday’s 2A Greater St. Helens League baseball game that was moved to Longview.

The victory moves the Hawks into first place in the 2A GSHL standings at 8-3 and 12-5 overall. The win also gave the Hawks a head-to-head sweep of the Lumberjacks, meaning they can clinch the No. 1 seed to the district tournament with a win over Washougal on Wednesday.

Mitch Lines opened the ninth with a walk before Wheeler’s shot to left field to finish the day 3-for-4.

Lines, the Hawks’ starting pitcher, threw 5 2/3 , allowing one earned run on four hits and struck out nine.

Battle Ground 11, Camas 1 — Max Randle went 3 for 4 with three RBI as the Battle Ground clinched at least second place in the 4A Greater St. Helens League.

The Tigers will advance to the bi-district tournament next week.

Camas will play fourth-place Union on Thursday or Friday for the No. 3 seed to bi-district.

Isaiah Smith was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI and Austin Adams also went 2-4 for the Tigers.

Ridgefield 10, Columbia River 7 — Five Spudders had multiple hits, led by Kellen Bringhurst’s 3-for-4 performance in their victory.

Bringhurst scored twice and drove in a pair of runs, as Ridgefield moves to 6-4 in league, good for third place.

Bringhurst also pitched five innings, and allowed three hits to earn the win.

Softball

Ridgefield 11, Mark Morris 6 — Sarah Jenkins struck out 12 Monarchs and also went 3-for-4 at the plate, as the Spudders remain unbeaten in 2A GSHL play.

Mountain View 13, Hudson’s Bay 3 (5 innings) — The Thunder scored runs in each inning, highlighted by 11 hits, to keep pace in the 3A GSHL playoff race.

Raelyn Clemmer went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Thunder, who improve to 5-5 in league.

Union 10, Battle Ground 7 — Anna Aguon hit a grand slam and Halee Vinyard went 3 for 5 for the Titans.

Stars of the day

• Anna Brinton, Battle Ground girls track and field, won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump as the Tigers beat Heritage.

• Taylor Entenman, La Center girls golf, earned medalist honors by shooting a 44 at Club Green Meadows to lead the Wildcats to a 237-246 victory over King’s Way Christian.
