The Walk/Run for the Animals started early Saturday morning at Esther Short Park in Vancouver. The event is a fundraiser for Humane Society for Southwest Washington. The humane society cares for more than 8,000 homeless and abused animals every year. More than 540 volunteers donate more than 30,000 hours annually at the shelter. The shelter is the only open admission shelter in Southwest Washington.
