AAA: ‘Unseasonal’ gasoline glut drops prices again

A drop in crude oil prices as U.S. refineries ramped up their gas production has led to an “unseasonable glut of gasoline,” according to AAA Oregon/Idaho. That oversupply is led largely due to production in the United States, the agency said in its weekly gas prices update.

Gas prices have fallen nationwide for the second consecutive week. The streak defies the typical trends where gas prices climb in spring and summer.

Nationwide, gas prices fell 4 cents last week to $2.34 per gallon. Washington and Oregon each dropped 2 cents to $2.88 and $2.74, respectively.

Vancouver, averaging $2.86 per gallon, dropped 1 cent from a week before. Portland, averaging $2.76, dropped 1 cent over the week, as well.

AAA Oregon/Idaho made no projections to how gas prices may look in the future, though it said some experts predict the U.S. could continue to raise its production in the coming months.
