Last weekend I had the pleasure of being one of many volunteers at the annual Nutter Foundation Dozer Day. It was my first volunteer experience with this organization.
It was hot; I was sweaty and bone-tired at the end of the day. It touched me in so many ways and reminded me that there is more out there than what we hear and see on the news about the unrest and lack of unity in our country and our community.
Parents were willing to stand in long, hot lines with their children for a short, but fun, ride on a piece of equipment — for their child’s enjoyment and education, but also to support the groups and organizations that will receive support from the proceeds of this event.
Volunteers put in hours of work before, during and after and behind the scenes to pull it together. To see all of this and to be a small part of it truly touched and refreshed my soul. I cannot wait for next year’s event so I can be hot, sweaty and bone-tired all over again.
