Letter: Money poisons politics

By Henry Sessions, Vancouver
Published: November 17, 2017, 6:00am

When it’s all over, close to a million dollars in cash and in-kind donations will have been spent on the Port of Vancouver commissioner race. How many school lunches could you buy for that much money? How many low-income housing units could you build? Yes, the fate of the proposed oil-by-rail terminal is crucial for Vancouver’s future. But a million dollars spent on a port commission race is obscene and an object lesson in how money has poisoned our politics.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
