At least 50 people were killed in a suicide blast in a northeastern Nigerian town, the deadliest mosque bombing in three years by suspected Boko Haram Islamist militants.

The teenage male assailant entered a mosque in the town of Mubi strapped with improvised explosives and detonated them as people gathered at dawn for prayers on Tuesday, Adamawa state police spokesman Othman Abubakar said by phone from the state capital, Yola. The police are investigating the incident, he said, declining to comment on who might be responsible for the attack.

It is the deadliest mosque attack since 2014, when more than 100 people were killed in suicide blasts.
