Letter: Middle class needs support

As a person of faith, I am deeply concerned about the growing inequality in our nation. Our federal policies have the power to change this trend.

Last year the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and SNAP (formerly food stamps) lifted 12 million people out of poverty. As our representatives work on changes in tax policies, they have the power to fortify anti-poverty measures like these, or to gut them for giveaways to the already wealthy. I urge our elected representatives to stand with lower and middle-class working families. They deserve a secure foundation so they can realize their dreams.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
