Letter: Resume work on Vancouver Lake

By Thom McConathy, Vancouver

Congratulations to Don Orange on his recent win to become our next port commissioner. This election, to many, was a mandate on whether this community would be messed up with oil. But I hope we might revive the Vancouver Lake Partnership and clean up Vancouver Lake.

Port Commissioners Jerry Oliver, Nancy Baker, and Brian Wolfe were not just pro-oil, they opposed the cleanup of the lake and voted to kill the Vancouver Lake Partnership.

Former county commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke, with the help of Don Benton, also voted to destroy 12 years of work to clean up Vancouver Lake. It is easy to destroy, but it takes years to build solutions to complex environmental problems. A lot has been destroyed by these vandals. It is now politically possible to repair this and so much more.
