Letter: Progressives need Christ, too

By Robert J. Wattez, Vancouver

When challenged by the tyranny of progressivism, how should Christians respond when it’s offensive to say, “Merry Christmas,” or one is called a bigot for upholding God’s condemnation of homosexuality, or when accused of intolerance for proclaiming the only name that saves: Jesus Christ.

Remember, Christ has said that the world will hate you because of Him. But He said to pray for your enemies. Why? “Because while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans, 5:8, Apostle Paul).

Its not an easy thing to do. Our sinful nature wants us to lash out when subjected to the progressive’s love of profanity-laced name-calling tirades, or when antifa assaults others or commits vandalism. But we must pray that the hearts of such people will be changed so that they, too, can escape an eternity in hell.

For whether people believe it or not, the end will come. The Bible teaches that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. For many it will be too late. They will cry “Lord, Lord,” but it will not save them then. Therefore, we must pray for the sinner, ourselves included, while speaking out against the sin.
