Girls basketball: La Center 47, Columbia River 20

Taylor Stephens scored 20 points and six rebounds and Taylor Mills added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the fast-starting Wildcats opened their season with a nonleague win.

La Center jumped to a 18-2 lead after one quarter and led 33-13 at halftime.

Stephens, the returning 1A Trico League MVP, made six 3-pointers. Bethany Whitten scored all nine of her points on 3-pointers as 11 of La Center’s 17 field goals were beyond the arc.

Erin Baker scored seven points to lead Columbia River (0-1).
