Mukilteo – A 10-year-old Everett boy died after a heavy wrought iron gate fell on him at a church in Mukilteo, according to the city’s Fire Department.

Assistant Mukilteo Fire Chief Brian McMahan told news media at the scene that the fire department was called to the Sulamita Slavic Pentecostal Church in the 12400 block of Evergreen Drive about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

McMahan said he did not know how heavy the gate was or what happened to make it fall, but that police investigators were calling it a “tragic accident.”

McMahan said that the boy suffered a large laceration to his head. He said the boy died despite the efforts of a bystander who dragged the gate off the boy and administered CPR.
