Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership seeking volunteers

The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership is looking for volunteers to help with fall and winter plantings. The partnership adds native vegetation along the river and streams throughout the lower Columbia River, as the plantings can improve the habitat for a variety of wildlife.

The planting events are open to groups, individuals and families and can be used by students to gain community service hours for school. Warm beverages and snacks are provided, along with plants, tools and gloves.

Volunteers are asked to bring a water bottle and dress for the weather, including footwear for muddy conditions.

All events run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The partnership will hold planting events at Burnt Bridge Creek, Salmon Creek and Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, La Center Bottoms in La Center, Abrams Park in Ridgefield, Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Washougal and Sandy River Delta in Troutdale, Ore.

Pre-registration is required, and participants are encouraged to register early since each event is limited to 40 people. Volunteers can register online at www.estuarypartnership.org/get-involved/volunteering.
