The Rev. Kathryn Bert will be the Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver’s next settled minister after a yearlong nationwide search. She’ll be the church’s third settled minister since it started in 1954.

“I fell in love with the church because of the people,” Bert said in a news release. “I could see from my interviews and visits that they are people of integrity and depth and that they embrace the philosophy that ‘change begins with me’ as the foundation of their work for broader social change.”

Unitarian Universalist churches are known for being open-minded spiritual communities engaged in social activism.

Bert has a master’s degree in divinity from Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago and spent 15 years as senior minister at a church in Greater Lansing, Mich.

“We are thrilled to have Rev. Bert as our new minister,” Tracy Fortmann, president of the church’s board of trustees, said in the news release. “In addition to her skills in intercultural competence and talent for crafting a meaningful worship experience, she brings a strong commitment to work alongside us toward our goal of creating a world filled with love and justice.”

The Unitarian Universalist Church is located off East 18th Street in Vancouver’s Meadow Homes neighborhood. For more information visit www.uucvan.org.
