Letter: Applause for those who kneel

By Rita Catching, AMBOY

Let me be perfectly clear — I can’t stand football and I couldn’t care less about the NFL. However, I am terribly afraid I am going to have to start watching NFL games.

Since when is kneeling considered a sign of disrespect? Kneeling during our national anthem is the right and privilege of those players who are seeking a way to express their dismay and concern at the treatment and condition of African-Americans in the U.S. today. I applaud their efforts and their courage. I’m just afraid that now I’m going to have to start watching those darn games.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
