BATTLE GROUND — Senior running back Brock Robinson ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns and junior Garrett Moon thwarted two Davis drives with two interceptions as the Battle Ground Tigers ended the season in style with a 28-20 non-league win over visiting Davis on Friday night.
The win was Battle Ground’s first of the year.
The Tigers took the lead for good on their opening drive of the second half. The 10-play, 55-yard drive culminated in a 4-yard touchdown run by Robinson. All 10 plays on the drive were runs by Robinson.
Battle Ground then put the game away when senior Izak Brundage scampered around right end for a five-yard TD run with 3:36 left to give the Tigers a 28-14 lead. Brundage’s 44-yard run set up his TD run. Davis did tack on a touchdown but could pull no closer.
The Battle Ground defense also stepped up in the second half. In addition to Moon’s two interceptions, the Tiger defense held Davis to 30 yards rushing in the second half after the Pirates ran for 229 in the first half. Von Phothisane led Davis with 197 yards from scrimmage (165 rushing, 32 receiving) and opened the scoring with a 50-yard run up the middle on the game’s third play.
