Despite scoring first and Kade Coons’ 152 rushing yards, Washougal fell to Santiam Christian of Adair Village, Ore.

Five turnovers and two fourth quarter interceptions sealed the Panthers’ fate.

Coons was given the ball on nine of the first 11 plays and racked up 112 yards at halftime. A nagging ankle injury slowed his pace in the second half as he was held scoreless with 40 yards on seven carries.

The Panther defense tighten up in the second half, holding Santiam Christian scoreless in the third quarter and forcing the Eagles to punt three of their final five drives. However, the turnovers were too much to overcome.

Eagles’ quarterback Grant Carley was limited to just 10 completions on 23 attempts with an interception, but was effective on the defensive side, intercepting opposing Washougal quarterback Ryan Stevens twice.

Washougal had no answer for Luke Janssen, as the running back ran for 147 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown.
