As is the case with most of life, circumstances cause change. What used to be acceptable and commonplace becomes unacceptable and in need of change. The fires in the Columbia River Gorge call to our attention a real need for change. That is especially pointed out by the Eagle Creek Fire, which apparently was caused by fireworks.
For the sake of safety for our citizens, our animals, our environment, and for our sanity, it’s time to ban the sale and use of fireworks in all of Clark County. I believe we all want a safe, sane and healthy community. And I believe that we can only have that by banning the sale and use of fireworks now.
Let’s not wait until we have injured more children, lost pets and wildlife, destroyed more forests and homes, and caused untold damage. The next major fire, perhaps caused by fireworks, could be at our beautiful Battle Ground Lake or Lewisville Park, or homes and trees right in your neighborhood. All of our leaders, in each of our city and county governments, need to take action now to bring the sale, possession and use of fireworks to an end.
