Cole Baysinger rushed for five touchdowns and Forks scored 40 unanswered points to beat King’s Way Christian 54-20 on Friday.

Gage Koenders had two touchdown runs for the host Knights, who took a 21-14 lead on Michael Garrison’s 26-yard touchdown catch midway through the second quarter.

From then on, it was all Forks.

“It’s a character-building thing,” King’s Way coach Tom Schroeder said. “We made a lot of mistakes. But effort, that’s what I want to see come out of this. I want them to come back on Monday, regroup and get after it again. Things aren’t going to get any easier.”

Baysinger rushed for 234 yards on 22 carries, including touchdown runs of 86 and 31 yards. Fullback Tristen Pisanti added 134 rushing yards as Forks had 481 rushing yards

“There were some positive things,” Schroeder said. “In spurts, we had some gang tackling. But other times, not everyone was rallying to the ball.”

Garrison, who had three touchdown catches in King’s Way’s season-opening win over Fort Vancouver, left the game four minutes before halftime with a knee injury. Schroeder said the senior could have played in the second half, but the coaching staff wanted to be cautious.
