The scores were low and the skill-level high as two of the area’s top boys high school golf teams clashed on Monday.

Mountain View beat Union 142-146 at Fairway Village.

To do so, the Thunder’s top four golfers shot 38 or better at the par-34 course. Willy Yeh and Mason White each shot 34, Graham Moody shot 36 and Ben Arthur 38.

Union’s Keith Lobis led all golfers with a 2-under 32. Reece Boyce shot 34 and Dylan Henry 38 for the Titans.

Stars of the day

• Kyle Gomez, Columbia River boys golf, shot 3-over 37 to lead River over Washougal at Orchard Hills.

• Sam Crawford, Fort Vancouver boys tennis, freshman improved to 3-0 by winning second set in tiebreaker against Washougal opponent.

• Lizzie Baxter, Evergreen volleyball, had a team-high eight kills and two aces in a match against Mark Morris.

• Kendall Spencer, Prairie girls soccer, scored two goals and assisted on another in Prairie’s win over Battle Ground.
