An outdoor debris fire escaped and became a full brush fire Saturday afternoon.

Clark County Fire & Rescue responded to the small blaze at about 3 p.m. at 21400 N.W. 21st Place south of Ridgefield, spokesman Tim Dawdy said. A neighbor was burning yard debris when the fire got out of control and spread to dry brush nearby.

Neighbors helped suppress the fire while firefighters arrived. The crew was able to rapidly put it out.

Despite it nearly being fall, a burn ban remains in effect due to ongoing dry conditions, Dawdy said.

“People think summer’s over,” Dawdy said. “People are usually able to burn, but fire season isn’t over.”

The property owner, who called 911, was cooperative and was not cited for the fire, Dawdy said.
