Letter: Utah incident is rare occurrence

In response to the Sept. 2 Associated Press story “Utah officer who arrested nurse over blood test placed on leave,” regarding the bullying and inappropriate detainment of nurse Alex Wubbels, I would like to say that this is the exception rather than the norm.

As a health care provider, I have spent many hours in the emergency room. It has been my experience that nurses and all health care providers almost always have an excellent working relationship with law enforcement that shows camaraderie and mutual respect.

At times, law enforcement may be gathering information on a difficult patient but I have never witnessed an incident in which they interfered with patient care. Clearly, Detective Jeff Payne needs to be disciplined, but society should not generalize that this represents anything but a very rare occurrence.
