PORT ORCHARD — Prosecutors say a Pierce County deputy was justified in shooting a man following a police chase last year.
The Kitsap Sun reports Deputy Carl Shanks fired multiple shots at 35-year-old Brent Lee Heath striking him in the head following a 20-mile (32-kilometer) car chase that ended in Port Orchard in September. Heath survived the shooting.
Kitsap County Prosecutor Tina Robinson says no crime was committed because the shots were fired with a “good faith belief that the use of force was necessary.”
Authorities say Shanks fired upon Heath believing an officer was behind his car and was in danger of being hit when he backed up.
