A Vancouver woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the face while he slept made a first appearance Friday in Clark County Superior Court.

Kristen M. Straight, 33, appeared on suspicion of first-degree domestic violence assault in connection with the April 4 incident.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 11:30 p.m. to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center for a reported assault. Craig Soma had called 911 to report that his brother, Kevin Soma, was stabbed by his girlfriend at the couple’s residence in the 7400 block of Northeast 93rd Avenue, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Kevin Soma told deputies that he awoke to Straight stabbing him in the face with a knife, causing a 1 1/2 inch cut on his lower lip. The injury required stitches. He also suffered minor cuts to his arm and chest. Soma said he pushed Straight away from him, causing her nose to bleed, the affidavit states.

Straight, who was contacted in the hospital’s emergency waiting area, denied that anything happened between her and Soma or knowing how Soma was stabbed. She later said Soma punched her in the face, according to court documents.

During her first appearance, Judge Scott Collier set Straight’s bail at $150,000. She will be arraigned April 20.
