Letter: Incident shows fallacy of gun laws

By Angie Hinshaw, Vancouver

In the April 5 article “17-year-old arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery,” Darius Davon Tate, 17, stated that he fired three shots with a gun he obtained from “the streets.” Tate further stated that the reason he fired the shots was because he saw his “buddy” getting beat up. The man whose car Tate and his buddy were allegedly trying to steal was fighting to prevent that from happening.

Tate just validated every responsible, legal gun owner and, yes, the reviled National Rifle Association’s argument that stricter gun laws will not prevent guns from “falling into the wrong hands.” Raising the legal age to 21 to prevent “minors” from purchasing hand guns or ammo did not stop this 17-year-old from being able to purchase a gun or the ammo needed to use it.
