Letter: Conservation district is worthwhile

Funding the Clark Conservation District is essential if we wish to support that which we say we value.

We have been a community that says we value locally grown food. The conservation district is the support agency for local farmers who provide that food. We as a community say we value habitat preservation and restoration. Clark Conservation District is the go-to resource for landowners who protect, preserve and steward our rapidly disappearing natural habitats. We are a community that says we value economic growth. The conservation district is a knowledge resource for entrepreneurs who roll up their sleeves and create vibrant, diverse opportunities throughout the county. We are a community that says we value education. Clark Conservation District provides learning opportunities for all ages.

It is disheartening to have county councilors who fail to understand the Clark Conservation District’s benefits for all the people of Clark County. I ask those councilors three questions: Do you value locally grown food? Do you value environmental stewardship? Do you support economic growth and education?

A “yes” response to any question is all that is needed to know that the conservation district benefits all Clark County residents. The countywide fee of $5 per parcel and 10 cents per acre should be approved by county leaders.
