OHSU to host Brain Awareness lectures

Oregon Health and Science University announced the dates and topics for its annual Brain Awareness lecture series.

This year’s series will explore the influence nourishing the brain has on daily abilities, from academic performance to good decision making.

The lectures are at 7 p.m. May 7, May 14 and May 21 at Newmark Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway. General admission tickets are $27 for each lecture; full-series tickets are also available. For tickets, visit www.ohsu.edu/xd/health/services/brain/in-community/brain-awareness/lectures-events.

Here are the lecture details:

  • May 7: “Trade Food for Thought to Power 86 million Neurons” featuring Suzana Herculano-Houzel, an associate professor and associate director for communications for the Vanderbilt Brain Institute.
  • May 14: “The ‘Secret Sauce’ to Honing the Mind” featuring Adele Diamond, professor of developmental cognitive neuroscience at the University of British Columbia.
  • May 21: “Anxiety and Learning Problems: Could it be the Fats you Eat” featuring Bita Moghaddam, professor and chair of behavioral neuroscience in the OHSU School of Medicine.
