Fishing (but not swimming) weather in Clark County

Wednesday's high temperature of 84 degrees set a record for April 25

With temperatures in the 80s for the second day in a row, it was a great day for oversized hats and sunscreen. The forecast calls for more of the same Thursday before clouds, showers and temperatures in the 50s return by the end of the day on Friday. More sunshine is expected next week.

The high temperature of 84 degrees in Vancouver set a record for April 25, breaking the previous mark of 82 degrees set in 2001.

Adam Resendiz of Vancouver took advantage of Wednesday’s near-perfect weather to take his son Abraham, 4, trout fishing at Klineline Pond north of Vancouver. Resendiz said he started fishing around Abraham’s age, so he enjoys watching him learn.

Although three days of highs in the 80s is rare this time of year, none of the days came close to reaching the all-time record high temperature for April, which is 90 degrees. That record was set April 23, 1910, and tied on April 27, 1926, and April 30, 1998.

Although fishing is a good water activity for a warm afternoon, swimming remains extremely dangerous this time of year. Water temperatures in local streams and lakes are in the 40s and low 50s this time of year, which can cause even the strongest swimmers to struggle and, potentially, to drown.
