Washougal — Local bird enthusiast Wilson Cady’s painting of a sandhill crane was selected as the 2018 Washougal Art Festival poster and advertising image. Cady liked art in school and had an artistic mother, but he didn’t have much time for creating art until he retired. “Building a home, family, working, birding and environmental projects had kept me too busy to spend much time on art,” he said in a release from the Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance. “So, until retiring in 2008 from Georgia Pacific, my main artistic outlet was creating flip charts for training classes and illustrating the logbooks on the job.” His painting, “Sandhill Crane Over Steigerwald,” was the first that Cady completed in retirement after not painting for more than 20 years. The festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St., Washougal.
