Letter: Trump doesn’t show leadership

It’s been a year and a half since Donald Trump became president. I understand that he came to the job with no political experience under his belt and the purpose of “draining the swamp” and doing things differently. However, he’s led us towards confusion, dissension, hatred, and callousness towards “others.” I’m feeling disheartened, at best.

So, what qualities are important to be a great and effective leader? They include: honesty and integrity, able to inspire others, commitment and passion, decision-making capabilities, accountability, delegation and empowerment, creativity and innovation. Does President Trump exemplify any of these abilities?

I want our country to succeed and prosper but I don’t know how it can be done when there’s growing unrest and hatred that divides us in ways that don’t appear to have any workable solutions. Our leaders are absent in the very areas we need them to lead.

I grew up in a union home where hard-won rights for blue-collar workers were valued and appreciated. I try to understand what other citizens think and feel. I try to be respectful. I want leadership that truly leads us (all citizens) in a positive and productive direction.

Has our president drained the swamp or has he just stirred it up?
