Letter: Herrera Beutler is not helpful

By Joe Maurer, Vancouver
Published: August 4, 2018, 6:00am

“Herrera Beutler part of ‘lower health care costs’ bill,” read a July 30 Columbian headline. While I applaud supporting lower costs, the implication that she’s instrumental and her characterizations of the effort are laughable. With rare exceptions, she follows the party voting in favor of major legislation containing health care-killing provisions — a part of Ryan’s Raiders and McConnell’s Marauders, literally stealing health care from our citizens. Now, with an election looming, she projects being a white knight fighting to help us all. Although appreciated, her support here is rather like sticking a Band-Aid on a gaping wound.
