Letter: Stand up against drug companies

By Larry Kingsbury, Battle Ground
Published: August 8, 2018, 6:00am

Over many years multiple opioid manufacturers placed their profits above the health and the lives of American citizens. Eight hundred different lawsuits have been filed against these corporations for the unconscionable destruction of the lives of potentially many tens of thousands of formerly good people. Federal Judge Dan Polster then rewarded them July 26 for their greed by “safeguarding” their trade secrets from public view (“Judge: Data on opioid distribution not public,” July 28, The Columbian).

Polster’s priorities and his interpretations of federal law show why these soulless corporations have been allowed by our government to destroy our communities. May Polster and Congress all be judged harshly for their lack of courage and for accepting drug company campaign donations.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
