2018 Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Photo Contest invites photographers of all ages to submit their favorite nature images taken within the boundaries of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. The CAVE Art Gallery is seeking submissions for “Politiks: the Art of Deception,” an exhibition that runs Oct. 5-27. There is a $15 submission fee for up to two entries. Lift Up Life Art Show and Silent Auction seeks art for its September show and Oct. 5 silent auction, in honor of Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month. The National Alliance on Mental Illness Southwest Washington is hosting art shows in Clark, Skamania, and Wahkiakum counties. The theme is “Slivers of Hope,” promoting the awareness and prevention of suicide through art. This is a visual representation of the hope people need when choosing a path other than suicide. The art show will present work by artists of all ages and skill levels. The show will run from Sept. 1-30 at the following four venues: Vancouver Community Library (Sept. 11-30 only); Three Creeks Library in Salmon Creek; Wahkiakum County Library in Cathlamet; and the Skamania Chamber of Commerce in Stevenson. Art will be auctioned off at the Lift Up Life Silent Art Auction from 5 to 8 p.m. on First Friday, Oct. 5, at Cellar 55, 1812 Washington St., Vancouver. Second Story Gallery seeks artists to display their work in 2019. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Sept. 14. Applicants should submit digital photos of five works for the jury. There is a $30 nonrefundable application fee. Works will be displayed during monthlong openings from February 2019 through January 2020. Vancouver Master Chorale is holding auditions for its 2018-2019 season. The chorale does a full season of four concerts a year, including music from master choral works with an orchestra to Broadway pieces. The group also sings with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Magenta Theater is seeking actors for its production of “Once Upon a Palace Purple.” Auditions will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 19. Sign up for a time slot on Magenta’s website. Callbacks are 5 p.m. Aug. 25. Performances are Nov. 1 through 17; rehearsals are 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays Sept. 8 through 30. The play is a fairy tale.
