A 58-year-old man was arrested for felony hit-and-run Friday after allegedly getting into a verbal dispute with a traffic flagger and striking the flagger with his pickup, according to the Camas Police Department.

The flagger, whose identity was not released, suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver for further examination, police said in a news release.

At about 1:40 p.m., Philip Lauritzen was driving a Ford pickup when he entered a construction zone near the intersection of Northeast 35th Avenue and Northeast Everett Street. He wanted to turn north on Northeast Everett Street but was stopped by a certified flagger holding a traffic control stop sign, according to police.

Lauritzen got into a verbal dispute with the flagger, tried to drive around the traffic control and struck the flagger with the front of his pickup. He then drove away, north on Northeast Everett Street through the construction zone, police said.

Road workers stopped Lauritzen in the 3700 block of Northeast Everett Street and called 911. Camas police responded to the scene and arrested Lauritzen on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor failure to obey a flagman, according to the news release.

The flagger was treated at the scene by Camas/Washougal Fire Department paramedics before being taken to the hospital.
