Letter: 3rd District voters deserve debate

With the primary behind us, all eyes turn to November. Washington State University Vancouver political science professor Carolyn Long has advanced to challenge incumbent Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, our do-little, inaccessible Trump minion, proudly handing generous tax cuts to corporate America and the wealthy, while dismantling the Affordable Care Act and threatening Medicare and Social Security benefits. What we, the constituency of the 3rd District, deserve is a public debate between these two candidates. Will we see one? I’m confident the Democratic challenger is ready to go. As for the incumbent? I’m certain she’d prefer a telephonic version, or none at all.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
