I have been a Clark County resident for 20 years, have children in Vancouver Public Schools, and am actively involved in the business community around town.
After receiving a letter from the superintendent about contract negotiations, I was in shock at how it was handled. VPS unfairly used its access to parents’ emails to propagandize their side of the story, when teachers do not have the same privilege. It was appalling how one-sided the letter was and it intentionally made teachers look like greedy lawbreakers.
I am married to a veteran teacher and our own family has sacrificed countless hours to educate other families in this community. Where’s the respect that teachers deserve? It was not in this letter. The public already doesn’t support teachers or education as they should; the threatening and misleading letter devaluing teachers did not help.
I’m disheartened and angry. School district leadership across Clark County plans to keep money from our teachers. Where is the accountability for this? We will not stand for it. Enough is enough. I will be on the front lines with teachers showing my support so they get the money they deserve.
