Community notebook: Clark County golfers win Oregon Four-Ball Championship

Phil Barricklow of Vancouver and Kirk Schwerzler of Camas won the Senior Men’s title Monday at the 3rd Oregon Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond, Ore.

Barricklow and Schwerzler defeated Ron Hop of Dayton, Ore., and Alan Plusquellec of Sherwood, Ore., in the final match 4 and 2.

After birdieing three of the first eight holes, Barricklow and Schwerzler jumped out to a 3-up lead after nine holes.

The lead was cut to 2-up after Hop birdied the 14th hole, but back-to-back birdies by Schwerzler on Nos. 15 and 16 closed out the match.

Barricklow and Schwerzler’s win marked the duo’s first Oregon Golf Association Championship.

Vancouver Tennis Center to reopen on Labor Day

The Vancouver Tennis Center will reopen at noon on Monday, Sept. 3, with a grand reopening celebration set for 6 p.m. Sept. 5.

The public is invited to attend.

The United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest Section is taking over operations of the facility from the city of Vancouver.

Facility upgrades have included court resurfacing, LED lighting, live stream indoor court viewing as well as a new roof.

Opening week hours are noon to 8 p.m. on Sept. 3, 6 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. Sept. 4-7, and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 8-9.

Pickleball at Evergreen Tennis in Camas

Evergreen Tennis of Camas is offering indoor pickleball for the fall season. To entice players, pickleball will be free during the month of September.

Evergreen Tennis will be multi-purposed to include dedicated pickleball times starting with a noon mixer on Sept. 5. After that, the club will offer pickleball to its members and the public with open mixers from noon to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 6-8 p.m. on Saturdays. Court reservations will also be available from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

There will also be a Pickleball Certfication Workshop for professional instructors on Sept. 1 at Evergreen. Registration information can be found at www.pprpickleball.org through the Professional Pickleball Registry.

Evergreen Tennis is located at 5225 N.W. 38th Ave in Camas.

CCRC hosting run, picnic to end summer

The Clark County Running Club’s Marine Park 5K run and picnic will close the summer season beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The club will provide pizza and drinks. Participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

There are two September runs scheduled. The Burnt Bridge Creek 5K is 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5, and the Tech Center run is 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12.

Oscar Bauman of Vancouver was the winner of the first Marine Park 5K on Aug. 22 with a time of 15 minutes, 48 seconds. Katrina Mueller was the top women’s finisher, placing seventh overall in 20:57.

Clark County teams complete Hood to Coast

Bidet Boys of Camas placed seventh overall at the Hood to Coast Relay race that finished Saturday at Seaside, Ore.

The team’s time was 19 hours, 31 minutes, 22.3 seconds. It placed fifth in the Men’s Open division.

According to the online race demographics, there were 61 teams entered from Vancouver, 13 from Camas, seven from Battle Ground, six from Ridgefield, six from Washougal, two from Woodland, and one from La Center.

Running On Empty of Vancouver was 38th overall and 13th in the Men’s Open division. Rimg Photo Finishers of Vancouver were 90th, and eighth in the mixed submasters division.
