Letter: McCain was a man of honor

Senator John McCain — may he rest in peace — was a Vietnam prisoner of war, and a highly decorated war veteran. He was well-respected by both political parties and had a very successful 35-year run in our U.S. Congress. To quote from his valedictory memoir “The Restless Wave,” McCain wrote of the world he inhabited: “I hate to leave it. But I don’t have a complaint. Not one. Its been quite a ride. I’ve known great passions, seen amazing wonders, fought in a war, and helped make peace. … I made a small place for myself in the story of America and the history of my times.”

We currently have a president who constantly lies. He has no concept what peace for him or the country would even look like. He has no respect for himself, the American people, this country and its values. He cannot even color in the color of our American flag stripes. He was photographed in a classroom last week coloring some of the flag stripes blue.

To quote McCain again, he said: “I will not take the low road to the highest office in this land. I want the presidency in the best way not the worst way.”
