Woman faces vehicular homicide allegation in fatal Vancouver crash

A 23-year-old woman who was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly driving drunk and striking a pedestrian is now accused in his death after he died of his injuries.

Elvis Keplinger, 48, no address provided, died Thursday afternoon at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. A nurse at the hospital told investigators Keplinger was brain dead, court records say.

Vehicle theft suspect dead after officer-involved shooting in Orchards area

A suspected vehicle thief was killed Wednesday morning in the Orchards area after the suspect rammed a Clark County sheriff’s vehicle, and the deputy fired their weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were dispatched about 4:40 a.m. to the 10900 block of Northeast 72nd Street for a report of a stolen car. They located the vehicle near Northeast 109th Avenue and 71st Street “occupied by the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said. “The suspect rammed the deputy, and an officer-involved shooting ensued.”

Soldier from Brush Prairie among three killed in Afghanistan

An improvised explosive device killed three United States service members, including a soldier from Brush Prairie, as they were on duty Tuesday in Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Army 1st Sgt. Eric M. Emond, 39, of Brush Prairie, was killed, along with Army Capt. Andrew Patrick Ross, 29, of Lexington, Va., and Air Force Staff Sgt. Dylan J. Elchin, 25, of Hookstown, Pa.

Oregon moving forward with I-5, I-205 tolls

PORTLAND — The Oregon Transportation Commission will vote next week whether to create tolls along stretches of freeway through the Portland metro area in Oregon, marking the next step in a multiyear process.

The tolled areas along Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 would not extend north to the state line under the current proposal.

The proposed toll roads would include Interstate 5 between Southwest Multnomah Boulevard and Northeast Going Street, a roughly 7-mile stretch through the heart of Portland, and Interstate 205 in and around the Abernethy Bridge around West Linn and Oregon City.

Pushing 90, Vancouver man still does the heavy lifting

Linda Schorr didn’t believe Steve Archer, so she decided to spy on him.
