Community notebook: East County Jets finish runner-up at youth football nationals

The East County Camas Jets Junior Pee Wee football team, a youth team made up of 4th-5th-6th graders, finished runner up at the National Youth Football Championship Tournament, held over Thanksgiving weekend at Las Vegas.

After an undefeated 7-0 season in which they outscored their opponents 155-0, the Jets went on to win Best in the West to secure their spot at nationals.

Playing in the 11-year-old National Division, the Jets opened with a 14-6 win over the Rocky Mountain Thunderhawks 14-6.

In the championship game, the Jets lost to Highlands Ranch Warriors Red of Colorado 26-0.

Ridgway signs with Arizona Christian

MacKenzie “Mac” Ridgway, who competes for SWAG Gymnastics of Vancouver and Union High School, signed a letter of intent to attend Arizona Christian University.

She will be part of the acrobatics & tumbling team at the college located in Phoenix. The team was first formed for the 2017-18 season.

Ridgway was the runner-up on floor at the Class 4A high school state championships last February.

Soccer All-Star game set for Sunday

The Clark County Senior All-Star Girls Soccer game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Harmony Sports Complex, located on NE 192nd Avenue in Vancouver.

Admission is free.

The inaugural event is being held in conjunction with the Timbers Alliance ID camp, providing the area high school players an opportunity to be seen by college coaches.

The game is also being hosted by Skyview Storm Soccer, Washington Timbers FC and the Clark College women’s soccer team.
