Letter: #MeToo leads to confusion

I read Kathleen Parker’s opinion column published in The Columbian on Dec. 6, “#MeToo brings inevitable unintended consequences.” Her column was just spot on.

First, there was the feminist movement, and now the #MeToo movement, where women can claim anything they want with no justification, verification or evidence concerning sexual harassment. A woman, just by making a false claim, can cause loss of job and family difficulty.

So, at this day and age, I do not know whether I should open a door, give a woman a compliment without written permission, or whatever the #MeToo activists seem appropriate. Maybe the #MeToo people can explain to me why you women wear short skirts, plunging necklines, etc., and not understand that a nonsexual compliment is just that. So, if you cannot understand the issue why not go back to the 18th century dress codes.
