A garage fire damaged a house in Washougal early Thursday morning, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.

Fire crews responded about 5:30 a.m. to a report of a fire burning in an attached garage at a home in the 4000 block of C Street, Washougal, the department said in a statement.

The occupants were home when the fire started but evacuated without injuries, according to the department.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, although there was “significant smoke and fire damage” to items in the garage, and smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure, according to the release.

No cause has been determined, and Camas-Washougal Fire Marshal Ron Schumacher is conducting the investigation. Units from East County Fire & Rescue assisted on the call.
