LYLE — An Oregon man is in jail after driving his vehicle head-on into a car carrying two elderly people from Washington.

The Washington State Patrol says 44-year-old James Earls of Hillsboro, Ore., was driving east in the westbound lane of State Route 14 near Lyle, Washington at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

Earls crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by 79-year-old Dale Hutson of Bingen, Washington.

The impact totaled Hutson’s car and injured his passenger, 82-year-old Barbara Hutson.

She was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
