Fishing report, Dec. 27

White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 at the Mouth of the Columbia River upstream to the Oregon/Washington Border above McNary Dam, but remains an option for catch-and-release fishing.

A few plus-sized fall rainbow trout are still available in the lakes stocked on Black Friday.

Fall trout plantings have begun in local lakes and in the Columbia River Gorge, and fishing has been very good.

Trophy-sized brooder trout are being planted in local lakes and in the Columbia River Gorge.

Walleye fishing has slowed considerably in the Columbia River.

Early winter steelhead fishing in local streams and coastal rivers is very slow.

Salmon/Steelhead

Columbia River Mainstem — From the Buoy 10 line upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco: Closed to angling for and retention of salmon and steelhead.

Elochoman River — 29 bank anglers kept five steelhead and released one coho jack. Two boats/three rods released one coho.

Abernathy Creek — One bank angler had no catch.

Cowlitz River — I-5 Bridge downstream: Two bank rods had no catch.

Above the I-5 Bridge: Twelve bank rods had no catch. Three boats/six rods released one chinook.

East Fork Lewis River — 25 bank anglers released three steelhead and two coho.

Salmon Creek — 39 bank anglers had no catch.

Wind River — No anglers sampled.

Klickitat River — No anglers sampled.

Recent trout plantings

Horseshoe Lake — planted with 86 trophy-sized brood rainbow trout on Dec. 18.

Kress Lake — An additional 12 recycled steelhead were planted from Dec. 10-14.

Rowland Lake — Stocked with 4,000 rainbow trout at 2.4 per pound on Dece. 17-18.

Mineral Lake — Stocked with 203 rainbow trout at 0.8 per pound and 11 trophy-sized brood rainbows on Dec. 12. On Dec. 18 planted with 672 chunky rainbows at 0.8 per pound.

Lake Sacajawea — Stocked with 540 rainbows at 0.8 per pound on Dec. 18.

Spearfish Lake — Stocked with 3,500 rainbow trout at 2.5 per pound.

Battle Ground Lake — Planted with 100 trophy-sized brooder rainbow trout on Dec. 11. The lake has been fishing very well recently.

Kokanee

Merwin Lake kokanee fishing continues to be good. Anglers are catching kokanee in the 12 to 14 inch range, and they are reportedly very heavy.

Yale Lake kokanee fishing continues to be good.
