The results of last month’s general election became a little more official Thursday after three elected candidates stood before Clark County District Court Judge Darvin J. Zimmerman and swore to “truthfully, faithfully, diligently and impartially” perform the duties of their office.

Under the gaze of family and supporters in the county’s sixth-floor hearing room, Eileen Quiring took the oath of office for Clark County Council chair. Quiring, a Republican county councilor, placed first in the August primary over incumbent council Chair Marc Boldt, no party preference. She went on to narrowly beat Democrat Eric Holt in the general election.

After taking the oath, Quiring gave a brief speech, saying that she was initially reluctant to run for the position.

“When I decided to do it, I was in all the way,” Quiring said.

She added that she’d always seek to do the best for the residents of Clark County, keeping in mind “when I make a decision that they will be affected, and I want them to be affected positively.”

Greg Kimsey was sworn in for his sixth term as Clark County auditor after running unopposed for the position.

Jim Malinowski was sworn in for another six-year term on the Clark Public Utilities District Board of Commissioners. Malinowski, who was first elected in 2012, made brief remarks, stating that it was a privilege to serve on the board.

On Monday, Temple Lentz and Julie Olson will be sworn in to their terms on the county council. Sheriff Chuck E. Atkins, Assessor Peter Van Nortwick, Clerk Scott Weber and Treasurer-elect Alishia Topper will also be sworn in, according to a county press release.
