President Donald Trump’s call for national unity is disingenuous. He worsens the divisions in our nation by disparaging, insulting and offending millions of Americans. If Trump really wants unity, he can sincerely apologize, but he continues to be our “divider in chief” as well as our “liar in chief.”
Despite a majority of votes being heavily influenced by myths, disinformation, biases and stereotypes, a majority of voters showed wisdom in rejecting George W. Bush in 2000 and Trump in 2016. However, our Electoral College failed to fulfill the will of voters both times.
While Bush is a decent man, he signed tax cuts that enriched the wealthy, erased a projected budgetary surplus and exacerbated the Great Recession — and engaged America in seemingly endless, unnecessary and costly wars that destabilized a region, dislocated or killed millions and undermined our international credibility.
Even with his shortcomings, Bush is presidential. By every reasonable standard for a president, Trump is unfit, and our Electoral College failed to protect us from an unfit individual assuming the presidency. Our undemocratic and constitutionally gerrymandered Electoral College, not the people, elects our president.
